Therefore the overall winner for the week-end was Tom Gayler with a combined score of 55 points. He was presented with the Basil Clavering Jug, a bottle of champagne, a bottle of claret St. Emillion Grand Cru, golf balls and a pair of socks. In second place overall was Terry Chard who was presented with half a bottle of champagne, a bottle of claret St. Emillion Grand Cru, golf balls and a pair of socks. Dave Kenna was awarded a bottle of the worlds worst desert wine for coming last overall. Mike Schorfield was awarded a bottle of 99p red wine and a pair of socks to strain it through for the worst completed round of the week-end.
It should be noted that these were two very difficult golf courses both endowed with more than there fair share of heather ergo any visit into the rough was rather punishing. In our favour we were blessed with very good weather on both days.
On the social side we ate at two thoroughly decent restaurants. On Friday evening we enjoyed a Chinese feast at the Mandarin Fusion on Old Christchurch Road. On Saturday we dined Italian style at La Piccola Italia on Holdenhurst Road. After dining on Friday we chanced upon some rather good live music at O’Neil’s whilst on the Saturday we were all Old Fogeys and retired to the hotel bar.
As captain for the week-end I would like to commend the behaviour of the whole touring party. It really was most unlike the Six O’clock Club. We might even be allowed back to this hotel.
Thank-you gentlemen for your company on the week-end, John Hannan, Captain for Bournemouth 2017.
